Why We Chose the Calpe Sunset Cruise
We wanted to finish one of our days in Calpe with something a little different, and a sunset boat trip with Mundo Marino sounded perfect.
The cruise lasts around 1.5 hours, so it does not take over the whole day. That was one of the reasons we liked the idea. We could explore during the day, then head to the harbour in the evening and enjoy the coast from a completely different angle.
What interested us most was the combination of the sea, Peñón de Ifach, music, a glass of cava and the sunset. It sounded simple, but sometimes those simple plans turn into the best memories.
And that is exactly what happened here.
Once we were out on the Mediterranean, Calpe felt completely different. Instead of looking at the sea from the beach, we were looking back towards the coastline, the mountains and the enormous Peñón de Ifach rising behind the town.
For us, it was not just another sightseeing trip. It felt more like a relaxed evening out at sea.
Arrival, Free Parking and Boarding
Getting to the departure point was very easy for us.
We came by rental car and found a large free car park only about a three-minute walk from the harbour. That was a nice surprise, because we had expected parking near the departure point to be more difficult or expensive.
We arrived a little earlier, which turned out to be a good idea. Instead of rushing straight to the boat, we had time to walk along the rocky coast, enjoy the views and take a few photos before boarding.
Calpe is very photogenic around the harbour, especially with the sea and Peñón de Ifach nearby, so I would recommend arriving at least 15–20 minutes early.
Having a rental car also made the whole day much easier for us. We could explore different places during the day and then drive straight to the harbour for the sunset cruise.
Our Mundo Marino Catamaran Experience
Once we boarded the Mundo Marino catamaran, the evening really started to feel special.
The boat felt relaxed rather than formal. People found places to sit, took photos and watched Calpe slowly move further away as we headed out along the coast.
From the sea, Peñón de Ifach looks even more impressive. On land it already dominates the skyline, but from the boat you really see how dramatically it rises above the town and coastline.
That was one of our favourite parts of the trip.
The cruise itself lasted around 1.5 hours, which felt about right. Long enough to enjoy the views and the atmosphere, but not so long that it became tiring.
We also liked that the trip was not only about the sunset. The whole route gave us a different perspective on Calpe, the coastline and the mountains behind it.
Music, Cava and a Really Good Atmosphere
This was probably the most enjoyable part of the cruise for us.
Once the music started and the cava was being poured, the whole atmosphere became much more relaxed. People were talking, laughing, taking photos and simply enjoying being out on the water.
The captain also made a big difference. He was cheerful, friendly and clearly wanted everyone on board to have a good time. It never felt stiff or overly organised.
For us, it felt more like a small celebration at sea than a standard sightseeing trip.
There was music playing, drinks in hand and the coastline slowly changing around us. Everyone seemed to be in a good mood, and that is probably what we remember most from the evening.
We also filmed a short video on board because the atmosphere was much easier to understand in motion than in a single photo.
The Sunset from the Sea
As the sun started to go down, the whole trip became much quieter and more atmospheric.
The light changed very quickly, and the coastline looked completely different from the boat. The sea became softer in colour, the mountains turned darker, and the sky slowly shifted into warmer tones.
This was the moment we had really come for.
It was not about doing anything special. We were simply sitting on the boat, listening to the music, holding our drinks and watching the sun disappear over the Mediterranean.
For us, that was the best part of the cruise.
Calpe is already beautiful from land, but seeing the sunset from the sea gives you a completely different feeling. You are away from the streets, traffic and restaurants, and for a while everything feels much calmer.
More Things to Do Near Calpe
If you are staying in this part of the Costa Blanca for more than one day, there are several other places nearby that are easy to combine with Calpe.
One of the best options is Fonts d’Algar. It is only around half an hour away by car, so it works well as a separate morning or afternoon trip. The waterfalls and natural pools feel completely different from the coast, which makes it a good contrast to a boat day.
Benidorm is another easy option if you want more nightlife, beaches, restaurants and a busier resort atmosphere. It is close enough to visit without changing hotels.

Practical Tips and Would We Do It Again?
A few small things can make the trip easier.
We would recommend arriving a little early rather than turning up at the last minute. The harbour area is nice to walk around, and if you are lucky with parking, you can leave the car close by and have time for a few photos before boarding.
Bring something light to wear in case it gets breezy on the water, even if the day has been hot. Sunglasses are useful before sunset, and of course it is worth keeping your phone or camera ready because the light changes quickly.
The boat itself was relaxed and easy-going, so you do not need to overthink what to wear. Comfortable clothes are enough.
Would we do it again?
Yes.
For us, the best part was the combination of everything together: the sea, the views of Peñón de Ifach, the music, the cava, the captain trying to keep everyone in a good mood, and finally the sunset.
It was simple, but it felt special.
