Kaunas Airport: Our Practical Guide to Hotels, Buses and Car Rental
We recently travelled through Kaunas Airport and took our own photos of the terminal and the practical things around it. Rather than making this a generic airport guide, we wanted to show what you can actually expect when you arrive: where the bus stops, which car rental companies are available and where you can stay if you have an early or late flight.
What Kaunas Airport Is Like
Kaunas Airport is in Karmėlava, outside central Kaunas. The terminal is compact and straightforward to navigate. Inside, signs clearly point towards Departures and Special Assistance, with seating areas and the main passenger facilities close together.
For us, this is one of the advantages of a smaller airport: you are not walking through an enormous terminal trying to find the next area. The layout is relatively simple, especially if you are travelling with only hand luggage.
Getting from Kaunas Airport to the City by Bus
The city bus serving Kaunas Airport is 29G. It runs from the airport through Kaunas, including the bus station, and continues to the railway station. The timetable varies by day and time, so it is worth checking the current departure time rather than simply walking out and expecting a bus immediately.
We photographed the bus stop and timetable during our visit because this is exactly the sort of practical detail that is useful after landing. If your flight arrives late, check the current timetable before relying on the bus, as schedules can change.
Air Hotel – Right Opposite Kaunas Airport
One of the most useful things we noticed outside the terminal was Air Hotel. It is only about 50 metres from Kaunas Airport, making it particularly convenient for an early departure, a late arrival or an overnight connection.

Car Rental at Kaunas Airport
If you want to explore Lithuania beyond Kaunas, collecting a rental car at the airport can be much more convenient than travelling into the city first. The rental companies currently listed at Kaunas Airport include Enterprise, Europcar, Sixt, Hertz and Carwiz.
Rental cars are collected from the airport’s rental parking area. Before booking, compare not only the headline price but also the deposit, excess, fuel policy, mileage and collection hours.
Inside the Terminal
The terminal has clear Lithuanian and English signage. During our visit we photographed the main passenger areas, including the departures direction, seating and Special Assistance signage.
If you need assistance at the airport, follow the Special Assistance signs and arrange any required airline assistance in advance where possible.
Before You Travel
We prefer to have travel insurance arranged before leaving home. Flights, baggage and health problems are the things you hope not to deal with, but insurance is much easier to organise before the trip than after something has happened.

Kaunas Airport is not huge, and that is part of its appeal. With the bus stop, hotel and car rental options close to the terminal, the practical side of arriving or departing is relatively easy to understand once you know where everything is.
