Green Motion Kaunas Airport Review: Our Car Rental Experience
We hired a car from Green Motion at Kaunas Airport during our Lithuania trip in August 2026. This is our own experience of the booking, finding the rental office after landing, the car we actually received and the rental conditions that mattered most to us.
We booked a Volkswagen Polo 4–5 door or similar, manual, for five days. Our booking used the Basic package with a €1,000 excess. We actually received a white Dacia.

Finding Green Motion at Kaunas Airport
The first thing worth knowing is that the Green Motion office is not inside the airport terminal. From our experience, it is roughly 300 metres on foot from the terminal, at Šaltinių g. 17, Karmėlava. Knowing this before you arrive makes collection much easier because you are not looking for a Green Motion desk inside the terminal.
What We Needed at Collection
Green Motion sent us a reminder before collection and offered advance check-in. Their Lithuania terms require the original physical driving licence; digital licences are not accepted. The licence normally needs to have been held for at least two years. Drivers with licences issued outside the EU/EEA may also need an International Driving Permit.
The payment rules matter if you choose a cheaper package. Visa and Mastercard credit cards are accepted for the rental and deposit. Debit cards can be used for the rental payment, but generally not for the security deposit except under Premium Plus. The card must be in the main driver’s name and have enough available funds.
Basic Package: Deposit and Excess
Our reservation showed a €1,000 excess. Green Motion offers Basic, Plus, Premium and Premium Plus packages with different excess and deposit levels. For the smaller vehicle groups listed in the terms, Basic can mean a €1,000 excess and €1,000 deposit. The amount depends on the vehicle group, so check the actual booking rather than only the headline rental price.
A deposit is normally pre-authorised on the card. Green Motion says released funds typically take around 5–15 days to become available again, depending on the bank.
Booked a Polo, Received a Dacia
Our confirmation was for a Volkswagen Polo or similar, but the car we collected was a white Dacia. The rental terms allow an alternative vehicle from the booked group when an exact model has not been guaranteed.
Before driving away, inspect the bodywork, wheels, glass and interior. Green Motion’s terms tell customers to inspect the vehicle and make sure existing damage is recorded. We also like to take our own photos before leaving the rental area.
Fuel, Mileage and Driving in Lithuania
For Basic, Plus and Premium rentals, the stated fuel policy is like-for-like; Premium Plus uses full-to-full. Returning a vehicle with missing fuel can also result in a refuelling charge in addition to the fuel itself.
The Lithuania terms give unlimited kilometres for driving within Lithuania. Cross-border driving must be requested; fees and mileage limits can apply, and unauthorised border crossing carries a substantial penalty. If you plan to drive into Latvia, Estonia or Poland, arrange it with the rental company first.
Compare the Full Price Before Booking
For us, the important lesson is to compare more than the first price shown. Check the excess, security deposit, fuel policy, collection hours and what protection is actually included.
Before Your Trip
We always feel more relaxed when we travel knowing that our health and our trip are covered if something unexpected happens. It gives us one less thing to worry about and lets us concentrate on the journey.
