Puerto Banús at Night – Our First Impressions
We had heard plenty about Puerto Banús before coming to Marbella, so one evening we decided to go and see what it was really like for ourselves.
We had a rental car, but we did not want to spend the evening searching for parking around the busy marina. We left the car near Hotel Baviera, where we were staying in central Marbella, and took a taxi to Puerto Banús. ➜ READ NEXT: OUR HOTEL BAVIERA REVIEW

We still found a rental car very useful for exploring the Costa del Sol during the rest of our trip, even though we chose a taxi for this particular evening. Having a car gave us much more freedom to visit beaches, towns and places outside Marbella at our own pace. As soon as we got out of the taxi, Puerto Banús felt very different from central Marbella.
We immediately noticed the expensive cars, the huge yachts in the marina and people arriving for dinner dressed for a night out. Restaurants were full and the terraces were busy. We spent a while just walking and watching the evening around the waterfront.
One thing we noticed straight away was how clean it was. There were plenty of people around, but the streets by the marina still looked tidy and well kept. We expected a little more chaos from such a busy nightlife area, but it never really felt like that.
And then there were the cars.
We kept seeing Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Bentleys and other luxury cars. Some people stopped for photos, while others barely looked at them.
A Little Bit Like Monaco

As we walked towards the marina, we both had the same thought.
We looked at each other and both thought of Monaco. That was the closest comparison from our own travels.
Of course Puerto Banús is not Monaco, but the yachts, expensive cars, designer shops and people dressed for the evening gave us a similar feeling as we walked beside the water.
We were happy just walking around and taking everything in.
We did not book a nightclub that evening. We walked through the streets and around the marina, stopping whenever something caught our attention.

Luxury Cars, Superyachts and the Puerto Banús Marina at Night
The Marina Was the Part That Impressed Us Most
Once we reached the marina, Puerto Banús started to make much more sense.
During the day, photos of luxury yachts and expensive cars can sometimes look a little exaggerated, almost as if they were chosen only for advertising. But in the evening, when we saw the area ourselves, it really did feel like that in real life.
There were large yachts moored side by side, some of them looking more like floating villas than boats. The lights from the restaurants and shops reflected on the water, people were walking slowly along the marina, and every few minutes another expensive car would pass.
It did not feel like a normal seaside resort.
The whole area had a very polished atmosphere. People were dressed well, couples were stopping for drinks, groups were arriving for dinner, and there was always something to look at.
We spent quite a bit of time simply walking around the marina because there was no reason to rush anywhere.
Supercars Everywhere
One thing that really stands out in Puerto Banús is how normal luxury cars seem here.
We are used to turning our heads when a Ferrari or Lamborghini passes, but in Puerto Banús we saw expensive cars again and again within just a few minutes.
Watching the cars became part of the evening for us.
We were not there to buy designer clothes or hire a yacht. We just enjoyed walking around together, looking at the cars, boats and people around the marina.
At one point, my wife stopped beside one of the luxury cars for a photo. We took the picture and carried on walking. Moments like that were part of the fun of the evening.
The Yachts Look Even Better After Dark
The yachts impressed us more than we expected.
At night the marina looked completely different.
We liked the reflections from the yacht lights on the water and the restaurants glowing behind them. Some of the yachts were enormous, and from the promenade we could walk very close to them.
Our photos do not quite show how good the marina looked in person that night.
We enjoyed this part of Puerto Banús even without going into a club. Walking beside the yachts after dark was one of our favourite parts of the evening.
You can simply come in the evening, walk around, have a drink and enjoy the view.

Designer Shops, Evening Crowds and the Luxury Side of Puerto Banús
It Feels More Like a Fashion District Than a Typical Marina
After spending time around the yachts, we continued walking through the streets behind the marina.
This is where another side of Puerto Banús becomes obvious.
The area is full of designer shops, luxury boutiques, stylish restaurants and people who clearly make an effort for a night out. Even late in the evening, it feels polished rather than chaotic.
We saw brands like Dolce & Gabbana, expensive storefronts, well-dressed couples and groups moving between restaurants and bars.
What surprised us was how visible the luxury was. It was not hidden behind hotel doors or private clubs; we saw it all around the marina.
We could walk through the area, look around and enjoy that side of Puerto Banús without spending anything.
People Really Dress Up Here
We quickly noticed that Puerto Banús was not a place where everyone stayed in beach shorts and flip-flops for the evening.
We saw casual clothes too, but overall people were noticeably more dressed up than in many other Spanish resorts we have visited.
We noticed elegant dresses, smart shirts, heels and designer bags. It definitely felt like a place where many people make an effort for a night out.
It added to the feeling that this was not a normal beach-bar evening.
We did not feel uncomfortable or out of place, but we were definitely glad we had made a little more effort than we would for a normal beach bar.
Busy, But Still Very Clean
By this point the streets were busy.
Restaurants were full, people were moving between bars and taxis kept arriving. There was always something happening around us.
Even with all those people around, it still felt clean and comfortable to walk through.
We noticed it because by then the area was already busy, but it still did not feel messy.

We still remember how busy it was and, at the same time, how clean the streets around the marina remained.

Where to Stay in Puerto Banús
Staying Right in Puerto Banús
We stayed in central Marbella, but we could see the advantage of staying right in Puerto Banús for a late night.
The advantage is simple: no driving, no parking and no taxi back to central Marbella. At the end of the night, you can just walk back to the hotel.
While walking around Puerto Banús, we passed B51 Boutique Hotel and Benabola Hotel, both in very convenient locations close to the marina.
If we came back mainly for the nightlife and marina, we would seriously consider staying here instead of travelling in from central Marbella each evening.
B51 immediately stood out because of its location.
It is right in the Puerto Banús area, so you are very close to the marina, restaurants, bars and designer shops.
For a trip centred on Puerto Banús nightlife, this location would be very convenient. Dinner, drinks and the marina are all close enough to enjoy without needing a taxi back afterwards.

For nightlife and restaurants, staying this close to the marina is very convenient.
Benabola Hotel
We also passed Benabola Hotel, which is another strong option if location is your priority.
What makes it attractive is how close it feels to everything. You are effectively staying right in the Puerto Banús atmosphere rather than commuting into it.
For couples planning a late dinner, drinks and a walk around the marina, this is exactly the kind of hotel location that can make the evening much easier.Benabola Hotel.

Staying in Puerto Banús means you can walk back after dinner or drinks instead of arranging transport.
Is It Better to Stay in Puerto Banús or Central Marbella?
For us, staying in central Marbella worked well because we wanted to explore more than just Puerto Banús.
We were based at Hotel Baviera, which gave us easy access to central Marbella, the Old Town and the seafront, and then we simply took a taxi to Puerto Banús for the evening.
If we returned mainly for Puerto Banús nightlife, restaurants and the marina, we would consider staying in Puerto Banús itself.
For our broader Marbella trip, staying in central Marbella worked well.
We see B51 and Benabola as alternatives to Hotel Baviera rather than direct replacements; they suit a different kind of Marbella trip.

The Evening Changes After Dinner
You Can Enjoy the Night Without Going to a Club
We had expected Puerto Banús nightlife to be all about expensive clubs and VIP tables, but that is not really the full picture.
A lot of the atmosphere is simply outside.
People moved between the restaurants, bars and marina while music came from different venues and cars kept arriving. There was always something happening around us.
We did not need to go clubbing to enjoy Puerto Banús at night. For us, the atmosphere around the marina was the main attraction.
That was the part of the evening we enjoyed most.
We were not trying to visit every famous venue. We preferred walking around the marina, watching the evening get busier and simply seeing a different side of Marbella.
Getting Back to Central Marbella by Taxi
We Left the Rental Car at the Hotel
One thing we were glad we did was not drive to Puerto Banús in the evening.
We had a rental car during our Marbella trip, but parking around Puerto Banús can be awkward when the area gets busy. Rather than spend part of the evening looking for a space — and then having to think about driving back later — we left the car near Hotel Baviera, where we were staying in central Marbella, and went by taxi instead.
That turned out to be a much better decision.
For our day trips around Andalucía, the rental car was very useful and we used it a lot during the trip.
Our Ride Back Cost £12.25
At the end of the evening, we ordered a ride back from Puerto Banús to central Marbella.
Our trip cost £12.25.
For us, £12.25 was worth it. After the evening in Puerto Banús, it was much nicer to sit in the taxi and go straight back to Hotel Baviera than think about driving.
Of course, the fare can change depending on the time and demand, but our ride gives you a real example: we paid £12.25.
The ride back did not feel long at all. After several hours walking around Puerto Banús, we were happy to sit down and go straight back to the hotel.
Sometimes a Taxi Is Simply the Better Option
We usually like having a car when we travel because it gives us more freedom.
But for Puerto Banús at night, we would take a taxi again.
It meant we could enjoy the evening and stay as long as we wanted without thinking about the car.
For us, that made the taxi fare worth paying.

Staying in Central Marbella Worked Well for Us
Although staying directly in Puerto Banús would be convenient for nightlife, we were happy with our decision to stay in central Marbella.
It gave us a better base for seeing different parts of the city rather than spending the whole trip around the marina.
From there, we could explore Marbella during the day and simply take a taxi to Puerto Banús when we wanted a completely different kind of evenin

More Than Nightlife: Marbella Old Town and Beaches
Puerto Banús Is Only One Side of Marbella
Puerto Banús showed us one side of Marbella, but it was not the whole story.
During the day, we saw a very different side of Marbella.
We found the Old Town much more traditional, with narrow streets, white buildings, small squares and cafés. The beaches and promenade showed us another side of the city compared with the luxury marina at night.
That contrast was one of the things we liked most about Marbella.
One evening you can be walking past superyachts and designer shops in Puerto Banús, and the next morning you can be sitting in a quiet square in the Old Town or walking along the beach.
If you are planning more than one day in Marbella, I would definitely recommend seeing both sides.
Why We Would Not Stay Only in Puerto Banús
Puerto Banús is impressive, but personally we would not want our whole Marbella trip to revolve only around the marina.
It is a great place for an evening, especially if you enjoy luxury cars, yachts, bars and people-watching.
But central Marbella gives you more variety.
You have the Old Town, beaches, cafés, restaurants and the seafront, and then Puerto Banús is close enough for an evening trip.
For us, that balance worked better than staying in one area for the entire trip.

Puerto Banús is one of the most famous parts of Marbella, but it is only one side of the city.
The marina is easy to explore on foot, but central Marbella and the Old Town offer a very different atmosphere.
Travel Tip – Don’t Forget Travel Insurance
We normally prefer to have travel insurance even for shorter European trips.
Most journeys go exactly as planned, but delays, lost luggage, cancellations or medical problems can quickly become expensive.

Practical Tips for Visiting Puerto Banús at Night
Go Later in the Day
For us, Puerto Banús made the most sense in the evening.
We saw the marina after dark, when the yacht lights were on and the restaurants were filling up. That evening atmosphere was exactly what we had come to see.
For the atmosphere we wanted, arriving in the evening worked well.
Arriving around sunset or a little later gives you both sides of Puerto Banús — you see the marina while there is still some daylight, and then you can watch it change as the evening gets busier.
Don’t Depend on Parking
If you are staying in central Marbella, I would seriously consider taking a taxi instead of driving.
Parking around Puerto Banús can be a hassle when the area is busy, and if you are planning to have a drink, it makes even less sense to bring the car.
For us, leaving the rental car by the hotel and taking a taxi was the easiest option.
Dress a Little Smarter Than Usual
Puerto Banús is not formal, but it is definitely more polished than a normal beach nightlife area.
You do not need anything extreme, but smart casual works much better here than beachwear.
We were glad we had dressed properly because the whole atmosphere feels more stylish, especially around the marina, restaurants and designer shops.
You Don’t Need to Spend a Fortune
This was probably one of the most useful things we realised.
Puerto Banús looks expensive, and of course it can be expensive if you want VIP tables, premium restaurants or clubs.
But you can still enjoy the area without spending much at all.
Walking around the marina, seeing the yachts, looking at the cars and enjoying the atmosphere costs nothing.
For us, walking around the marina was the best part of the evening.
How Long Should You Spend There?
If you just want to see the marina and atmosphere, a couple of hours is enough.
If you want dinner, drinks and nightlife, you can easily spend the whole evening there.
We spent several hours walking around Puerto Banús, so we would not rush a first visit.
Would We Go Back?
Yes, we would.
It was not a cheap or particularly relaxed evening, but that was not what we came for.
We would go back because we enjoyed the evening and the atmosphere around the marina.
For us, it was the mix of yachts, expensive cars, people heading out for the night and the marina lights that made Puerto Banús memorable.
It reminded us of Monaco, mainly because of the yachts, cars and the atmosphere around the marina.
That is how we remember the evening.
How We Combined Puerto Banús with Marbella
We explored Marbella’s Old Town, beaches and promenade during the day and visited Puerto Banús in the evening. For us, seeing both showed two very different sides of Marbella.

Yes, especially if it is your first time in Marbella.

We actually enjoyed the free part the most — looking at the yachts, supercars and evening atmosphere.
Is it better to drive or take a taxi from Marbella?
For an evening visit, we would take a taxi again.
We had a rental car during our trip but left it near our hotel in central Marbella and travelled to Puerto Banús without it.
That meant we did not have to worry about parking or driving back after having a drink.
Our own ride back to central Marbella cost £12.25.
What should you wear in Puerto Banús at night?
Smart casual is a good choice.
Puerto Banús feels noticeably more polished than a normal beach resort in the evening, and many people dress up for dinner, drinks and nightlife.
You do not need to be overly formal, but we would avoid obvious beachwear if you are planning to visit the better bars or restaurants.
Can you enjoy Puerto Banús without going to a nightclub?
Absolutely.
That is exactly what we did.
A large part of the experience is simply walking through the marina, seeing the yachts, watching the cars, stopping for a drink and enjoying the atmosphere.
You can have a very good evening without entering a club at all.
Where is the best place to stay for Puerto Banús nightlife?
If nightlife is your main priority, staying directly in Puerto Banús is the most convenient option.
Hotels such as B51 Boutique Hotel and Benabola Hotel put you close to the marina, restaurants and evening activity.
What else should you see in Marbella?
Do not spend your whole trip only in Puerto Banús.
Marbella Old Town, the promenade and the beaches give you a completely different side of the city.
We enjoyed having both experiences on the same trip.
For us, the best part of Puerto Banús was simply walking around the marina after dark.
For us, Puerto Banús was less about ticking off bars and clubs and more about enjoying the marina, the lights, the cars and the atmosphere together.
